Past
Dietrich and his younger sister Caia was born to a crack whore inside the city of San Diego. Neither of them had any idea whom their father was, or if they had the same father. They knew the likelihood of them sharing the same biological father was slim given their mother's loose attitude around men. Their father(s) could be any of the men that their mother decided to take to her bed. Also, they were both born with special powers. Gifts that had many of those within their neighborhood believing that their mother had slept with something supernatural to conceive them---whether this was true or not is anyone's guess. What is known for certain is they had these abilities.
Caia had the ability to drain a person's life force with a touch. It was an ability that she could not turn on or off, and one that forced her to wear gloves in order to keep herself from stealing the life force of those she didn't wish to. Dietrich's own powers were not as obvious as his sister's. He was an empath. He could feel what others felt---from the psychological to the physical. When he was younger he had no control over his abilities, and he was bombarded with the feelings of everyone around him. Eventually, he gained control over his abilities. He could turn it off and keep himself from feeling anything, or he could turn the full force of his abilities onto one person and feel everything they felt to a heighten degree. He, also, learned how to manipulate the feelings of others--to change their emotions and make them believe or even think what he wanted.
Life was not easy for Dietrich or Caia growing up. They had the unfortunate pleasure of having a mother whose only concern was the next high added to the fact that those within their neighborhood feared them because of their powers. Many of them became outright cruel---believing that if they hurt Dietrich and his sister before they could hurt them that they could somehow protect themselves being hurt by either Dietrich or Caia. It wasn't until after he was taken by a man named Heil that he learned to have any real control over his abilities.
Heil kidnapped people from the street and brought them to one his various laps to conduct horrible experiments upon them. Most of the test subject died as an results of these experiments, but there were those--like Dietrich--that survived them. The lab that Dietrich was brought to goal was to create the ultimate weapon. One that could enter any area without anyone realizing what it was. He was not the only experiment within this lab at this time. There were several others brought to the lab around the same time Dietrich was, but only one of them were considered as much of an success as Dietrich---a man named Quintin Devone.
It was through Quin that Dietrich begun to master his empathic abilities. The scientist doing the experiments believed that the reason most of their test subjects ended up dying was because the pain became too much for them. If they could disconnect their experiments from their pain then they might have a better chance at being a success. They brought Dietrich in with Quintin because they believed that if Dietrich was in the same room as Quin while he endured his experiments that he would learn how to turn off his powers. They believed that if they got him to turn off his powers often enough that they could make him believe that he was incapable of feeling any amount of pain while his powers were off and would turn them off to endure his own experiments.
It worked, and the scientist found that there might be some truth to their theory. Dietrich reached their ultimate goal far faster than their only other successful experiment, which was Quintin Devone--the very same man they put Dietrich in the room with. And just like Quin, Dietrich ended up losing his memories. The scientist, like with Quintin, saw this as proof that he was degrading and that he needed to be depose of like any broken tool. However, before they could even get around to even attempting to depose of Dietrich, Heil came to the lab and put a stop to this notion. He claimed that even a broken tool could be useful, and he decided to make use of Dietrich by turning him into an assassin.
This was an occupation that Dietrich proved quite good at. He enjoyed the thrill of the kill, and he had no qualms about who was his target. Whomever Heil wanted dead, he simply had to point Dietrich into their direction and they would be six feet under in no time. It was, also, Heil that gave him the name Hatred's Kiss. He was not a person and therefore did not deserve a person's name. Instead, he was an tool, a weapon or even an idea. It was this very notion of ideas that Heil decided to name Dietrich after. People often hired assassins to kill those they didn't like, or they considered their enemy. Dietrich isn't just a private assassin for Heil. He will kill for anyone if they can pay the price.
He worked as an assassin for awhile before rediscovering his sister. Caia had joined a gang of kids with special powers like her, whom had been abused by a society that feared and hated them for these powers. It was through her that he learned his real name and some information about his past. Aside from his name, Caia is not very forthcoming with the information about his past, and he had learned what little he does know from the various conversations they have. In spite, knowing his name he rarely goes by it.
Present
Over the years, Hatred's Kiss has perfect his skills as both an assassin and an empath. It is these skills that has many people seeking him out. Through, it is mostly his skills as an assassin that brings people to him. His empathic abilities only makes killing his target that much more easier, or amusing--if he wished. During one of his assassinations, he met a female by the name of Taylor Marks. There was something about her that drew him to her. He has no idea what this thing was, but he does know that he wants her. In spite her protests that she needed to find Quin, he has kidnapped her and brought her to his estate.
He hopes that with time he will begun to understand what it is about her that draws him towards her. There is apart of him that believes it was her connection to Quin that drew his attention to her. He believes that his time spent enduring Quintin's pain--even when Quin had passed out--has bonded him to Quin in some strange manner. It might make him drawn to those that Quintin had cared about. Through, until he meets another person Quin cares about he has no idea if this theory holds any truth or not. His attraction towards Taylor might be very unrelated to his time spent within that lab.
